Investigative journalist Seymour Hersh expose that the Obama administration mischaracterized many details surrounding the 2011 death of Osama bin Laden in the London Review of Books.

FACTS: Pakistan knew the whereabouts of OBL

FACT: U.S. leaders mischaracterized the raid Murdering OBL as including a “firefight.”

FACT: Obama rushed to take credit for the death of OBL forcing the military and intelligence communities to offer complementing details to form the narrative.

The Pakistanis were furious with us. The president sent me to Pakistan after the raid to try to start smoothing things over,” Morell added.

FALSE: White House still maintains mission was an all-American affair, and that the senior generals of Pakistan’s army and Inter-Services Intelligence agency (ISI) were not told of the raid in advance. So OBL decided a resort town 40 miles from Islamabad would be safest place to command AQ – Hiding in the open.

LIE: That Pakistan’s General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, chief of the army staff, and General Ahmed Shuja Pasha, director general of the ISI were never informed of the US mission.

FACT: Carlotta Gall in New York Times Magazine March 19, 2014 wrote she’d been told by a ‘Pakistani official’ that Pasha had known before the raid that bin Laden was in Abbottabad. = Denied by US and Pakistani officials

FACT: I tiaz Gul book “Pakistan: Before and after Osama (2012)” = Runs think tank in Islamabad wrote four undercover intelligence officers asserted that Pakistani had knowledge of the operation.

FACT: A retired general, Asad Durrani, former head of the ISI in early 1990s, told an al-Jazeera interviewer “probable that they (Pakistan) did [know].” OBL’s location would be revealed for a quid pro quo to hand him over to the United States.

FACT: Hersh told Durrani that bin Laden had been a prisoner of the ISI at the Abbottabad compound since 2006 + Kayani and Pasha knew of the raid in advance including allowing two helicopters delivering the Seals to Abbottabad could cross Pakistani airspace without triggering any alarms.

FACT: CIA did not learn of OBL’s whereabouts by tracking his couriers, as the White House has claimed, but from a former senior Pakistani intelligence officer who betrayed the secret for much of $25 million reward offered by the US.

FACT: Obama did order the raid and the Seal team did carry it out, many other aspects of the administration’s account were false.

Durrani = ‘When your version comes out – if you do it – people in Pakistan will be tremendously grateful. For a long time people have stopped trusting what comes out about bin Laden from the official mouths. There will be some negative political comment and some anger, but people like to be told the truth, and what you’ve told me is essentially what I have heard from former colleagues who have been on a fact-finding mission since this episode.’

Durrani = Former ISI head was told shortly after the raid by ‘people in the “strategic community” who would know’ that there had been an informant who had alerted the US to bin Laden’s presence in Abbottabad + US’s betrayed promises left Kayani and Pasha exposed.

Major US source = Retired senior intelligence official knowledgeable about the initial intelligence about bin Laden’s presence in Abbottabad + Knew many aspects of Seals’ training for the raid + Various after-action reports.

Other US sources = 2 Longtime consultants to the Special Operations Command

Other Pakistani Sources = Senior ISI and military leadership = Verified by Durrani that Obama’s decision to go public with news of OBL’s death was a surprise to Pakistan.

WALK-IN: August 2010 a former senior Pakistani intelligence officer approached Jonathan Bank, then the CIA’s station chief at the US embassy in Islamabad = Told CIA where to find bin Laden in return for the $25 Million reward that Washington had offered in 2001.

CIA Walk-in Policy = Fly in a polygraph team and the walk-in passed the test = ‘So now we’ve got a lead on bin Laden living in a compound in Abbottabad.”

CIA’s first goal was to put the compound under satellite surveillance + CIA rented a house in Abbottabad to use as a forward observation base and staffed it with Pakistani employees and foreign nationals = Later house became a contact point with the ISI. [Note lots of rentals in vacation spot]

CIA prepared a psychological profile of the informant + He and his family were smuggled out of Pakistan and relocated in Washington DC as a consultant for the CIA.

CIA + Military OPTIONS = Bunker buster bomb on the compound or a drone strike or send in an assassin = BUT they needed proof the retired official said = Obama was briefed and his response was cautious = OBL living in Abbottabad was just too crazy. OBAMA’s position was: “Don’t talk to me about this any more unless you have proof that it really is bin Laden.”

CIA = Decided to get Obama’s support using DNA evidence and if valid then do a night assault on the compound and the retired official said USA needed ‘to get the Pakistanis on board’.

Late autumn 2010 = US kept quiet about the walk-in, and Kayani and Pasha continued to insist to their American counterparts that they had no information about bin Laden’s whereabouts.

SO BOTTOM LINE — THE USA STORY HAS MORE HOLES IN IT THAN OBL’S BODY SUPPOSEDLY AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN!
