Kim family members assumed the title “Dear Leader” to build a personality cult around him patterned after that of his father, the “Great Leader” or the “fearless leader” or ‘Dear Father” or “eternal leader” or “the great successor to the revolutionary cause” and Supreme Commander since the Army is the real foundation of power in North Korea. They had two sons and Kim Jong-un was one of them. In 1983 They also had a daughter, Kim Yo-jong, who was about 23 years old in 2012. Kim even had a third mistress with no children.
Kim’s official wife, Kim Young-sook, was the daughter of a high-ranking military official. His father Kim Il-Sung handpicked her to marry his son. The two were estranged for some years before Kim’s death. Kim had a daughter from this marriage, Kim Sul-song (born 1974).
