$Multimillion 19 acre Redevelopment project – a portion it is in the industrial north end of Hoboken owned by the Rockefeller Group and Christie withheld crucial Hurricane Sandy recovery funding for the city.
Rockefeller Group began acquiring properties in the area with an eye toward creating a sprawling commercial development with a 40-story office tower.
2010: 11 months after Zimmer took office, the Rockefeller Group said it was working closely with her and the city to make its vision a reality.
At the time, Zimmer denied the city was negotiating with the Rockefeller Group because she was awaiting completion of a study to examine redeveloping the north end of the city, which included the properties owned by Rockefeller.
The study, commissioned by the Hoboken Planning Board which Zimmer controls, concluded that only three of the 19 blocks considered for rezoning should be developed — at least some which were owned by the Rockefeller Group.
After the study was released, the Rockefeller Group began demolishing buildings on the property. However, last April, the planning board decided to reject the study.
The study was funded by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The law firm of David Samson, chairman of the Port Authority, represented the Rockefeller Group.
While this process was unfolding, the Christie administration was doling out Sandy recovery money. Zimmer had requested $100 million for her city but said she only received $342,000. The state disputes her figures.
In the interview yesterday, Zimmer alleged Guadagno and Constable said the city would begin receiving money in exchange for her support of the Rockefeller project.
The Christie administration has denied the accusations, with spokesman Michael Drewniak calling Zimmer’s statements “outlandish.” Department of Community Affairs spokeswoman Lisa Ryan called the allegations “categorically false.”

MENENDEZ AND SCHUMER REBUKED BY 10 Senate committee chairs joint letter to Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, urging him to reject an effort by Menendez to tighten sanctions on Iran and warning that his bill could disrupt ongoing nuclear negotiations.
A senior White House official had accused Menendez of undermining the negotiations.
“We have consistently and strongly opposed any new sanctions legislation during the negotiation. It is not necessary for Congress to pass this bill, because we are enforcing existing sanctions and can move to sanctions if negotiations don’t succeed or if Iran cheats,” a senior administration official said. “This bill does not provide the president with the flexibility necessary to negotiate an agreement. The fact is, passing new sanctions now would split the international community, embolden Iranian hard-liners, and likely derail any prospect of a diplomatic resolution. Members of Congress pressing for this bill are effectively choosing to close the door on diplomacy, making it far more likely that we’ll be left only with a military option.”

Feinstein worried that this language might hamstring American foreign policy decision makers as a result and could imperil ongoing negotiations between Iran and the West, harm U.S. diplomatic credibility, break up the current international sanctions coalition, and allow Tehran to argue ‘we are interested in regime change.’
