Glen Ford, Black Commentator, Aug 4, 2014 Interview: “Past members of the Black Caucus stood up against Israeli aggression, but today these voices are silenced by corporate financing.”

Ford is the author of “The Big Lie: An Analysis of U.S. Media Coverage of the Grenada Invasion.”

FORD: “In Great Britain, the Black Student Union, the national Black Student Union, has joined in condemning Israel’s vicious attacks on Gaza. But we hear no equivalent here in the United States.”

FORD: House + Senate passed a unanimous resolution giving Israel a blank check in weapons and funds to MURDER Palestinians in Gaza.

FORD: 40+ black members of Congress — Even Barbara Lee went along with this unanimous blank check for Israel.

FORD: A little bit later, however, 6 in HOUSE and 4 of them black = the most that they could do was to send a letter to the White House urging Secretary of State Kerry to try to get a ceasefire going in Gaza. = Barbara Lee + Conyers + Keith Ellison + Hank Johnson = But not one of them could bring themselves to oppose Israel’s actions.

FORD: NAACP + Al Sharpton = Biggest civil rights organization = Said not a word about Gaza.

FORD: ONLY Cornel West of Princeton University consistently speaks out against the oppression of Palestinians by the Israelis.

FORD: A 30 year history of a deep and profound black critique of Israeli racial behavior in Free South Africa movement, when Israel collaborated very closely with South Africa to help develop an atomic bomb in a deep partnership militarily.

FORD: South Africa and Israel were routinely denounced by student activists and older and more established black politicians. But you hear none of that today.

Why this silence on apartheid? Why the change? What happened?

FORD: We’ve see profound changes in the Congressional Black Caucus since 2002 = NOW Awash in corporate money + Even smaller union funding has AIPAC STRINGS ATTACHED = Pro-Zionist influence

FORD: Go back three decades = We heard something that sounded like a semblance of criticism, even from politicians in the Congressional Black Caucus + Real noise on the street.

FORD: TODAY we have almost no movement on the street in black America, and that’s why we find the silence there as well regarding Palestine.
