New Iranian President Brings ‘Resurgence Of Hope’ For Some

Recently elected president, Hassan Rouhani, initiated the first high-level talks with USA in decades.

Rouhani = Progress in negotiations on Iran’s controversial nuclear program.

Rouhani = Has opened up the country to some Western reporters.

Scott Peterson of the Christian Science Monitor  said, “things have changed…this new election, which has brought about so much hope for so many Iranians with President Hassan Rouhani…This kind of resurgence of hope or re-engagement of Iranians and their political future and in the politics of today is the fact that they themselves overcame their doubts about the election system and basically went out to vote and elect by a very thin majority, this more moderate cleric as president.”

EU expresses high hopes for new Iranian president

EU nations have reacted positively to the news of the election of a moderate candidate as Iran’s next president. They are hoping for a change in tone from Iran, particularly regarding its disputed nuclear program.

Agreement with IRAN:

IRAN = Agreed to specific actions that halt progress on its nuclear program

IRAN = Agreed to roll back key parts of its program.

IRAN = Beginning January 20th, Iran will eliminate its stockpile of enriched uranium

IRAN = Agreed to dismantling some infrastructure that makes enrichment possible.

IRAN = Agreed to not install new centrifuges or use next-generation centrifuges.

IRAN = Agreed to new and more frequent inspections of Iran’s nuclear sites

IRAN = Agreed to let the world verify it is NOT obtaining a nuclear weapon.

USA UK, France, Germany, Russia, China, AND EU = WEST = Agrees to implement modest relief of some sanctions

WEST = Agrees that if Iran fulfills its obligations to reduce Iran’s nuclear program that sanctions will be reduced.

WEST = Agrees to vigorously enforce broader sanctions if Iran fails to meet commitments.

WEST = Used Unprecedented sanctions and tough diplomacy to get Agreement

President = Will veto any legislation ADDING new sanctions during the negotiation.

AGREEMENT = Concrete progress in pursuing a comprehensive resolution of Iran’s nuclear program for the sake of our national security and peace and security of the world = Give diplomacy a chance to succeed.
